Israeli police arrest Arab Israeli actor Maisa Abdel Hadi

Israeli police detained leading Arab Israeli actor Maisa Abdel Hadi

on suspicion of ‘incitement to terrorism’. Police and her lawyer said that the arrest took place due to a post by Maisa on social media post about the attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7 2023.

The actor, who hails from the northern Israeli city of Nazareth, was arrested on Monday and would stay in custody until Thursday. Maisa became one of several Arab Israelis who got detained over social media posts discussing the barbaric war that has wreaked havoc in Palestine.

According to details from news sources, Hadi posted a picture of a bulldozer breaching the fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel. This incident occurred on October 7 when Hamas attacked. Israel claimed that Hamas killed over 1,400 people in the attack. In her social media post, Hadi put the caption: “Let’s go Berlin-style”. The caption referred to the fall of the Berlin Wall after which Germany was partitioned till 1989.

The attorney of the 37-year-old actor, Jaafar Farah, stated that her client was accused of supporting terrorism. Jaafar is also the director of the human rights association Mousawat and representing Maisa Abdel Hadi in the case of inciting terrorism.

Earlier, an Arab-Israeli singer, Dalal Abu Amneh, also served a brief sentence over one of her social media posts. Human rights campaigners and Israeli police stated that several people from the Arab minority and Palestinians in east Jerusalem have been fired, expelled and arrested for expressing solidarity with Gaza. Note that Israeli Arabs comprise a fifth of the population in Israel.

The Hamas government in Gaza claimed that the retaliatory attacks on the coastal territory by Israel killed more than 5,000 people.
