WhatsApp has introduced a new feature with the name “Proxy Support”. The feature will allow users to operate WhatsApp without internet. The update will work in areas where internet service is blocked, and WhatsApp’s usage is prohibited.
According to a statement by WhatsApp, citizens of Iran and Syria, where WhatsApp or the Internet are banned, would be able to use a proxy server which is officially available in the latest version.
WhatsApp further added that shutting down the internet is a violation of human rights, and with the help of the new feature, users can use WhatsApp through Private Network (VPN). The popular chatting platform clarified that despite proxy support, the messages and calls would remain end-to-end encrypted.
For those who are new to the term, a proxy server is a connection between users and web services, acting as a web filter and allowing users to bypass censorship. With the help of Proxy support, WhatsApp can be used in regions where internet service is blocked or banned.
