PIA announces discount on domestic flights for Eid-ul-Adha

Transport Canada Aviation Security inspectors completed a comprehensive security assessment of Jinnah International Airport (JIAP) in Karachi, praising the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority’s (PCAA) security protocols for their adherence to international standards and best practices. The evaluation, conducted on Thursday, focussed on various critical security measures, ensuring the safety and security of passengers and flights, particularly those bound for Canada.

Rigorous evaluation and high praise

The assessment team, led by Transport Canada Aviation Inspectors Barbara Durette and Abdel Tahir, was hosted by the PCAA and supervised by Avsec Director retired Air Commodore Shahid Qadir. The inspectors examined a wide range of security protocols, including passenger and baggage screening, perimeter protection, and the security of cargo and catering services. Special attention was given to the security protocols for direct flights to Canada, ensuring that all measures were up to par with international standards.

During their visit, the Canadian inspectors also closely monitored the security procedures for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to Toronto. This included access control, aircraft protection, and comprehensive security searches, among other procedures.

Successful completion and formal recognition

A debriefing session followed the assessment, where the Canadian team received crests and gifts from Nadir Shafi Dar, the deputy director general, representing the aviation secretary, retired Capt Saif Anjum. The team expressed their gratitude for the hospitality and commended the PCAA’s efforts in maintaining robust security protocols.

The PCAA spokesman highlighted that this successful assessment follows other significant evaluations, including the ICAO USAP Audit and the GCAA-UAE assessment, reinforcing JIAP Karachi’s commitment to international security standards.

PIA announces direct flights to Jeddah from Faisalabad and Quetta

In a move to enhance connectivity and facilitate travel for Umrah pilgrims, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) announced the launch of direct flights from Faisalabad and Quetta to Jeddah. These new routes, commencing on August 6, 2024, are set to provide significant convenience for residents of these cities, who previously had to rely on connecting flights via Lahore, Karachi, or Islamabad.

Enhanced travel convenience

PIA’s introduction of two weekly flights from both Faisalabad and Quetta to Jeddah aims to streamline the travel process for Umrah pilgrims and other travellers. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce travel time and improve the overall travel experience for passengers.

In addition to the new routes, PIA has announced a 15 per cent discount on tickets for Umrah pilgrims travelling from Toronto to Saudi Arabia via Lahore. This discount, effective from July, will be valid for travel between August and November 15, 2024. Tickets are already available for purchase, offering a cost-effective option for those planning their pilgrimage.

Strategic expansion and customer focus

The new routes and discounted fares underscore PIA’s commitment to improving its service offerings and expanding its network to better serve its customers. By providing direct flights and attractive discounts, PIA aims to enhance passenger convenience and support the significant travel needs associated with the Umrah pilgrimage.
