Three cops martyred in attack on attack on police checkpost in Kohat

Attack on police checkpost in Kohat: Three cops martyred

KOHAT: A terrorist took place on a late Tuesday night at a police checkpost in Kohat. Three police officers were martyred in the firing, and a citizen lost his life in the attack.

The firing attack took place at the checkpost near Lachi toll plaza on Indus Highway when assailants opened fire. In cross-firing, the police killed one attacker and arrested the other in an injured condition. However, one of the assailants remained successful in escaping from the area.

Three police officers who embraced martyrdom in the attack were identified as:

  • Lance Head Constable Amjad
  • Lance Head Constable Junaid
  • Head Constable Waqar

Meanwhile, the civilian who died was a resident of Lakki Marwat and identified as Noor Muhammad.

Authorities immediately cordoned off the area with a heavy contingent and claimed to continue the search for the attackers.

Attack on police in Bannu

On Monday, 9 January 2024, two policemen were martyred in the Teri Ram area of Bannu district. 

The attack took place when the police officials were deployed for polio duty on the premises of Meeryan police station. Three unidentified attackers opened fire at the officers, which resulted in the demise of two policemen.

The police retaliated and were able to injure one of the attackers. However, two of the attackers hid in a nearby house.

A search operation was initiated after a heavy contingent of police force reached the area along with Bannu Deputy Superintendent of Police Qasim Ali Khan and District Police Officer Syed Iftikhar Shah. According to the DSP, the search operation continued for over six hours to locate the hiding terrorists.

The attack on a police checkpost in Kohat marks two consecutive attacks on police officials in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
