Taliban warn of change in stance against US if Biden didn’t return half frozen assets

In a categorical warning made to the United States on Monday, the Taliban have said that their stance against the US would change if the Joe Biden-led administration did not return the other half of the frozen Afghan assets deposited in America.

The Biden administration had announced last week that it would return half of the $7 billions worth of assets to Afghanistan to mitigate the looming humanitarian crisis. While the other half, it had said, would go to the families of the victims of terrorism – particularly to the victims of 9/11.

According to the statement released by the Taliban, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan ‘strongly rejected Biden’s unjustified actions’. The statement further read that the 9/11 attacks had nothing to do with Afghanistan.

It is pertinent to mention here that Afghanistan ruled by the then-Taliban government was accused of giving refuge to the then-most wanted terrorist and the mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks – Osama Bin Laden.
