Supreme court will issue appropriate orders regarding single-day polls, says Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial in Friday hearing

Islamabad: During the hearing on Friday, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial said the court would issue an appropriate order in the election schedule case. He also commented on the recent anti-judiciary atmosphere by stating that no one should misunderstand the intentions of Supreme Court.

Chief Justice of Pakistan briefed that the court has kept its cool and decided not to respond as justice should not be dispensed in rage. He added that the court would make sacrifices as people are doing the same because of security conditions.

The proceeding of Friday was closed after the Chief Justice said that the court would release an appropriate verdict about the single-day polls. He added that matters regarding April 4 verdict on Punjab polls would be dealt with in a separate hearing.

SCP Hearing

Supreme Court of Pakistan held the hearing on the election case on May 5 at 11:30 am. Earlier, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar submitted the reply from the federal government. He stated that the coalition government and opposition are on one page regarding holding elections on the same day.

According to the details, the reply submitted to Supreme Court stated that negotiations on holding simultaneous elections had positive outcomes. However, both sides still haven’t decided on the dates for dissolving assemblies. Finance Minister also added that negotiations could be taken further as significant developments occurred after talks with PTI.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif calls for simultaneous elections

Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif, has once again said that elections should be held on the same day across Pakistan. He addressed the media in London after a meeting with his brother and PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif.

While talking to the media, Shehbaz Sharif said Parliament had the right to legislation. He added that all institutions should operate under the limits defined by the constitution of Pakistan.
