The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan has rejected the joint investigation committee (JIT) formed by the federal government to probe into the Arshad Sharif murder case. During today’s hearing, the five-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Atta Bandial said that JIT should have members from Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Intelligence Bureau (IB), police and Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). SC also pointed out that the first information report (FIR), registered yesterday, was brief because no investigation has been done.
The fact-finding committee submitted its report at 1:00 pm. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar said that statements from Kenya police were not mentioned in the report. CJ remarked that the mother of Arshad Sharif has given names of multiple people and the case also involves Khurram & Waqar, hence there should be a thorough investigation. Umar Atta Bandyal also said that the court cannot form a commission as this is a criminal case and would wait till tomorrow for the formation of the new JIT.
