Rain-induced incidents continue to cause destruction across Pakistan

Pakistan continues to suffer from devastating floods caused by more than normal rain across the country. Despite rescue operations underway in all four provinces, the death toll keeps on increasing. The Pakistan Disaster and Management Authority (PDMA) recently reported that 21 houses got destroyed by floods in Charsadda. As of now, 1,030 people have passed away in rain-induced incidents. Sindh has reported 74 deaths, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 31 deaths. Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, Punjab and Azad Jammu & Kashmir collectively reported 12 deaths.

The PDMA added that among the demised souls included nine women, 56 men, and 32 children. Around 5.77 million people have been affected by the destruction caused by floods. In the last 24 hours: the floods drowned 0.72 million livestock, 0.95 million houses and swept away 149 bridges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a Rs 10 billion grant for Balochistan, while Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa visited Sindh and viewed the relief activities. The Chief Minister of Balochistan, Abdul Qudus Bizenjo, claimed that over Rs 200 billion would be required to rehabilitate victims of floods. He added that they are receiving full support from the Pakistan Army and the prime minister of Pakistan.

Reports claim that several people are still stranded in Swat, Upper Dir, and Kohistan. District management has requested the citizens to shift to relief centres formed in government colleges and schools.
