In a tragic incident, police on Monday arrested a quack doctor for the murder of two minor brothers in Machhar Colony, Karachi. The children, Ahmed (8) and Hasan (10), were reportedly kidnapped by Abdul Karim, who planned to demand ransom from their family to settle his financial debts.
According to DIG-South Syed Asad Raza, the brothers were reported missing on Sunday afternoon. They had last been seen near their residence in Jaffer Street, where they had visited a clinic. Suspicion quickly fell on the quack doctor, Abdul Karim, after their father, Siraj, expressed doubts about his involvement. The police took Karim into custody for interrogation.
During questioning, Karim confessed to kidnapping the boys with the intent of demanding a ransom from their family. He admitted to giving the children sleeping pills to sedate them and then locking them inside the clinic. Once unconscious, he tied their hands and legs, placed them in cloth and shopping bags, and left them in the clinic. By the time the police arrived, the boys had already died.
The bodies were transferred to Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi for medico-legal formalities. Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed confirmed that the boys’ hands and legs had been bound and stated that samples were taken to determine the exact cause of death pending chemical reports. Initial information from the suspect suggested he had administered tranquilisers to prevent the children from crying.
The victims’ father revealed to the media that Karim had intended to demand Rs40 million in ransom. Karim had borrowed Rs2.2 million and was struggling to repay his debt, leading him to this desperate and tragic act.
