Chaudhry Anwar-Ul-Haq becomes new PM of AJK.

Muzaffarabad: On Thursday, the member of Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf forward bloc, Chaudhry Anwar-Ul-Haq, secured the position of Prime Minister Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK). The forward block of PTI was supported by the Pakistan Democratic Movement. Chaudhry Anwar-Ul-Haq gained 48 votes and became the unopposed Prime Minister of AJK.

The appointment of a new PM for AJK occurred after the leader of PTI, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, got disqualified by the AJK High Court. He was facing a contempt case. According to details, the High Court of AJK declared the former PM ineligible to hold any public office. The AJK High Court directed the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of AJK, Abdul Rasheed Sulehria, to declare polls for the appointment of new PM. Sardar Tanveer Ilyas was summoned on charges of using threatening tone in his public addresses.

During the wee hours of Thursday night, the AJK Legislative Assembly held its session. Chaudhry Anwar-Ul-Haq, who was the joint candidate of opposition and PTI forward bloc, contested from LA-7 Bhimber on the ticket of PTI. He managed to secure a clean sweep win by securing 48 votes out of a total of 52.

While addressing the assembly, the newly appointed PM said that he took part in the elections as an independent candidate and bagged the support of PDM and PTI. Meanwhile, Sardar Ilyas Tanveer said that Anwar-Ul-Haq ditched Imran Khan and created a forward bloc to secure the PM seat with the support from opposition. Sardar Ilyas added that Imran Khan would announce the name of AJK PM later.
