President Zardari condemns India’s actions in Kashmir on Youm-i-Istehsal

On Youm-i-Istehsal, observed annually on August 5, President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned India’s actions in Kashmir since August 5, 2019. He criticised New Delhi’s “unilateral actions” and emphasised their disregard for international laws, the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

“Today marks the completion of five years of India’s latest campaign to consolidate its illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir,” Zardari stated. He highlighted that India’s steps undermined the region’s “internationally recognised disputed status” and have continuously aimed to alter the demographic and political landscape of the valley.

President Zardari pointed out the heavy militarisation of the region, with hundreds of thousands of Indian troops present, turning Kashmir into “one of the most heavily militarised zones in the world.” He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to providing moral, diplomatic, and political support to the Kashmiri struggle for self-determination.

Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani also delivered a strong message, marking August 5, 2019, as a “dark day in history.” He called on the international community to recognise the suffering of the Kashmiri people and to advocate for their humanitarian rights. Gilani stressed that India’s disregard for UNSC resolutions poses a significant threat to regional peace and stability.

National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq reiterated the necessity of resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. He emphasised that resolving this issue is crucial for achieving lasting peace in the region.

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Amir Muqam, honoured the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people in their pursuit of self-determination. He underlined the enduring struggle and resilience of the Kashmiri community in the face of adversity.
