Passport office in Kabul suspends its operations

KABUL: Due to the overload of applicants, the Kabul passport system has crashed, causing the passport office to suspend its operations for a few days.

The officials told that they were receiving 15,000-20,000 applications per day due to which the biometric system collapsed altogether. The current economic and social problems in Afghanistan after the Taliban took over have pushed many people to leave the country.

Several people slept on the pavement of the passport office overnight while waiting for their turn.

Around 60 citizens got arrested for allegedly possessing fraud documents. Among the arrested are also a few officials of the passport office. Currently, Ariana Afghan Airlines and Kam Air are providing international flight services to Dubai and Islamabad.
