Pakistani security forces eliminate 29 terrorists in month-long operations

Pakistani security forces have successfully neutralised at least 29 terrorists in a series of intelligence-based operations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border over the past month, according to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Wednesday.

These operations were launched in response to a significant increase in terrorist activities originating from Afghan soil. The ISPR stated that terrorists from Afghanistan have been attempting to infiltrate Pakistan through the border, targeting both security forces and civilians.

The military’s media wing detailed that the operations were conducted in the general area of Sambaza in Balochistan’s Zhob district and other border regions. Tragically, during these operations, Major Babar Khan was martyred on May 14, 2024.

“Pakistan’s security forces are determined and remain committed to securing the borders and ensuring the safety of its citizens against the scourge of terrorism,” the ISPR statement affirmed.

The statement also reiterated Islamabad’s ongoing demands for Kabul to enhance its border management efforts. “The interim Afghan government is expected to fulfill its obligations and prevent the use of Afghan soil by terrorists to perpetrate acts of terrorism against Pakistan,” it emphasised.

Rising tensions with Afghanistan

Earlier, Director General ISPR Major General Ahmed Sharif issued a stern charge against the Taliban-led Afghan government, accusing them of inadequate measures to curb cross-border terrorist activities, specifically those carried out by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

In a significant revelation, Major General Sharif confirmed for the first time that the terrorist attack on March 26, targeting Chinese engineers in Besham, had links to elements within Afghanistan.

In response, the Afghan Defence Ministry rejected the accusations from Islamabad and countered by blaming Pakistan for allegedly supporting Daesh.

Continued security efforts

Despite the challenges, Pakistani security forces remain resolute in their mission to combat terrorism and secure the nation’s borders. The ISPR’s latest update underscores the ongoing efforts to neutralise threats and the sacrifices made by the military personnel, exemplified by the martyrdom of Major Babar Khan.

The government and military leadership continue to push for stronger bilateral cooperation with Afghanistan to address the root causes of cross-border terrorism and ensure lasting peace and security in the region.
