ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has warned the citizens here on Tuesday that the country will run out of gas in a few years. He was speaking to the media in a post-cabinet meeting presser.

Talking about the gas depletion, he said that the country’s natural gas reserves were being exhausted by 9 per cent annually, adding that this had been the case for the last two years.

Fawad said that 78pc of the people had to bear the brunt of the subsidies on gas enjoyed by 22pc of people from the urban areas of the country. According to him, they had to make do with LPG, coal, and other means for cooking and other purposes.

He warned the residents of the urban areas that the trend of getting gas at subsidised rates won’t last long, adding that the gas supply system will have to be restructured to make sure that all citizens got their due share.
