ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the country wanted to bridge the gap between the two superpowers, US and China, and did not wish to join any bloc. He was addressing the Islamabad Conclave 2021 here on Thursday.

The prime minister did not shy away from expressing his fear that the world was moving towards another Cold War-like situation and that Pakistan did not want to be a part of any bloc.

He cited the example of the first Cold War and said that it had a massive effect on the world, including Pakistan. He also said that the country wanted to avoid a potential Cold War-like situation. He said that Pakistan would rather want to act as a mediator to “unite people”.

He said that both Saudi Arabia and Iran acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan for playing a part in deescalating the tension between the two oil-rich states. He said that Pakistan wanted to do the same in the case of the US and China, who have been at each other’s throat for a long time.
