Amid devastating floods; Pakistan observes 58th Defence Day with simplicity

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is celebrating its 58th Defence Day today and paying tributes to the martyrs and Ghazis of the 1965 war. The historic day has been observed with simplicity to show solidarity with the victims of devastating floods across the country. Over 1300 people have lost their lives in flood-related incidents.

After Fajr, special prayers were offered in mosques for the prosperity of Pakistan and the independence of Kashmir. The Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) postponed the central ceremony as an act of unity with the flood-affected people. The statement added that the Pakistan army would continue to serve its brothers and sisters struck by the unprecedented floods.

DG ISPR also tweeted a special message in which he saluted the heroes who defended the Pak nation. The tweet added the message from Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Jawed Bajwa, stating that Pakistan owes its freedom to the sacrifices of martyrs.

He said that the armed forces fought fearlessly on all fronts and the citizens of Pakistan also contributed to defending the motherland. Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif said that nation salutes the martyrs and ghazis who laid their lives to protect Pakistan. He added that the whole nation crushed the frenzy of the Indian war.
