Opposition urges ECP and SC to take action against PTI on foreign funding

ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: After the revelation made in the scrutiny committee’s report of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) funding, the opposition parties have called on the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Supreme Court (SC) to take action against the government.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have urged the SC to take a suo moto action against PTI. They have also asked the ECP to impose a ban on the political party leading the incumbent government.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif tweeted that Mr Khan had been exposed. He also lashed out at former Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar, stating that he had admitted his crime in the audio leak.

Finally! “Mr Clean” has been exposed as a corrupt and dishonest political con-man. And the other dishonourable man who declared him ‘Sadiq&Amin’ to engineer my ouster has already been heard admitting his crime. Divine justice is done, only the legal one remains to be seen & done! pic.twitter.com/5Y7nFuLGoK

Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto also tweeted on the matter. He said that the scrutiny report had exposed the PTI’s corruption and hypocrisy. He added that since Mr Khan had come into power, his income had increased 50 times.

ECP report proving PTI foreign funding is a damning inditement not only of the party’s corruption but exposes their hypocrisy. Simultaneously tax records reveal @ImranKhanPTI income increased more than 50 times since gaining power. Pakistan has become poorer but Imran is richer.

Opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif tweeted that for the past seven years PTI tried to avoid the foreign funding case. He added that report had shredded the façade of Sadiq and Ameen.

Truth has a strange way of exposing people. The Scrutiny Committee's report is a damning indictment of IK. PTI has been running away from foreign funding case for last 7 years and now we know why. The facade of "Sadiq aur Ameen" has been shredded into pieces.

Vice President of PML-N Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that they expected the SC and ECP to take the suo moto action as they did in past. While addressing a press conference, he said that if SC could disqualify the government on the basis of Iqama then they could also question Mr Khan regarding millions of funding.

Senator PPP Saleem Mandviwala said that PTI blamed PML-N and PPP for overseas funding while having mismanagement issues within the party.
