NZ crestfallen; Australia win their maiden T20 World Cup title

DUBAI: In what turned out to be a typical Aussie mauling of the opposition, World T20 saw the kind of an end that you had predicted when you sat down with popcorns in your hands. Australia won the toss and elected to field first – the same decision they had made against Pakistan in the semifinal on Thursday.

Australia restricted New Zealand to 172 despite Mitchell Starc conceding 60 runs in his quota of four overs. The Kiwi captain Kane Williamson led from the front and scored a scintillating 85 of 48 balls. He smashed the Aussie bowlers all around the park and got NZ to a respectable total.

Australia, in reply, got off to a cautious start but lost their captain Aaron Finch in the third over of the innings. The other opening batsman David Warner started slowly and took time before settling down on the wicket. Mitchell Marsh, on the other hand, played a superb knock and smashed the Kiwi bowlers for fun as he ended up 77 not out of 50 balls.

Australia chased down the target with ease and beat the Kiwis comfortably by eight wickets.
