NEW YORK: The rising cases of Covid-19 in the United States have pushed the authorities to undertake desperate measures. The Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio has announced a $100 incentive for people who will take booster shots by the year-end.
Covid-19 cases have affected the holiday season across the country. Health officials have expressed fears of a surge in cases after the New Year and Christmas vacations.
According to the US Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, 73 per cent of coronavirus infections in the US are now caused by the Omicron variant. On Monday, a Texas citizen lost his life due to the new variant. Reports claim that the deceased was unvaccinated.
Meanwhile, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) tweeted the latest Covid-19 stats of Pakistan. In the last 24 hours, 310 people tested positive of the total 46,991 tests conducted. The positivity ratio stood at 0.65 per cent. Ten patients died in the last 24 hours, while 645 are in critical care.
