Nepra fines NTDC for ‘failing to restore electricity in time’ following countrywide breakdown last year
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) has been fined a whopping Rs50 million by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) after it failed to restore the electricity timely following the countrywide breakdown early last year.

Nepra’s inquiry committee noted that it took the NTDC nearly 20 hours to fully restore the electricity. The regulator had earlier taken strict notice of the failure and formed a committee to determine as to why it took so long for the NTDC for full restoration.

According to the statement by Nepra, the NTDC was offered several opportunities for clarification but the company failed to come up with an adequate response resulting in the imposition of a heavy fine. The regulator is also pursuing a legal action against the power plants responsible for their ‘lapses, deficiencies and failure’.
