Islamabad: On Tuesday, the National Security Committee decided to initiate a trial against the individuals involved in vandalizing the military property. The committee agreed to conduct the trial under the Official Secret Act & Pakistan Army Act.
The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. DG ISI, three services chiefs, senior cabinet ministers, and other officials attended the meeting and discussed the violent protests sparked on May 9 after former prime minister Imran Khan got arrested. During the riots, several army installations were vandalized, including the residence of Corps Commander in Lahore.
After the National Security Committee meeting, Prime Minister’s Office issued an official statement which stated to initiate trial against the perpetrators and facilitators of violent riots under the Pakistan Army Act, Official Secrets Act, and other relevant laws, including to serve justice.
May 9 has now been officially declared a Black Day. National Security Committee extended solidarity with armed forces. Earlier, on Monday, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir chaired the corps commanders conference and decided to try the entities behind attacks.
