Monsoon rains wreak havoc on Karachi’s roads, causing severe traffic disruptions

The recent monsoon rains have left Karachi’s road infrastructure in a dire state, leading to widespread traffic disruptions across the city. Damaged roads, potholes, and ongoing construction projects have compounded the chaos, creating severe gridlock on major thoroughfares and causing immense inconvenience for residents.

The traffic situation on MA Jinnah Road has been particularly dire, with the flow of vehicles severely affected due to the deteriorated road conditions. According to traffic police, the damaged roads have resulted in increased congestion, with long queues of vehicles stretching for miles in the area.

The Saddar neighbourhood, along with surrounding areas, has also been heavily impacted, as vehicles are backed up for extended distances. Commuters travelling through MT Khan Road and Jinnah Bridge are facing significant delays due to potholes that have disrupted the smooth flow of traffic. The situation is similarly bleak on the road from Quaidabad to the airport, where extensive gridlock has left commuters struggling to navigate the dilapidated roads.

The route from FTC to Kala Pul towards DHA has not been spared either, with severe disrepair causing major disruptions in traffic. Residents in these areas are grappling with the daily hardship of navigating through congested and damaged roads. The situation near Malir Bridge is equally troubling, as potholes have further exacerbated the already challenging traffic conditions.

Commuters travelling from Gurumandir to Teen Hatti have reported significant challenges, as severe traffic jams have become the norm. Ongoing development work on both tracks in this area has only worsened the situation, making the daily commute a daunting task.

The widespread development projects across various parts of Karachi, coupled with the damage inflicted by monsoon rains, have led to serious traffic disruptions citywide. Residents are facing long waits and considerable inconvenience as they try to move through the congested streets, with no immediate relief in sight. The city’s traffic woes highlight the urgent need for road repairs and better management of development activities to alleviate the burden on commuters.
