KARACHI: Following an increase in the prices of the basic food essentials, the milk sector has also decided to increase the rates of milk by Rs.10 per litre and yoghurt by Rs.20 per kg.

The milk retailers association notified that the new prices of milk and yoghurt are Rs. 140 per litre and Rs. 220 per kg respectively. The association’s spokesperson, Waheed Gaddi, said that the new rates had already been applied to 80 per cent of shops all over the city.

Earlier in March, yoghurt hiked to Rs. 200 from its previous price of Rs. 180 per kg, while the price of milk was raised from Rs. 120 to Rs. 130 per litre.

The retailers association claims that the wholesalers planned the rise in prices, and retailers were resisting the decision, but the current circumstances did not allow them to continue with previous prices.
