WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s Finance Minister Miftah Ismail has categorically denied the claims of former prime minister Imran Khan that Russia had offered cheaper oil to Pakistan. He stated that Russia had not even replied to the letter sent by the previous government.

However, he [Miftah] was open to the idea of buying cheaper oil and food items from Kremlin if it did not result in Islamabad getting sanctioned. He was speaking in an exclusive interview to CNN’s Becky Anderson.

Talking about holding elections, Miftah stressed on taking the necessary economic measures first. He said that the government would have gone for the polls had the economy been in a better place.

It is pertinent to mention here that one of the key demands of the ouster prime minister Imran Khan is to announce the election date. He had also claimed that the government was in a position to buy cheaper oil from Russia when the motion of vote of no-confidence was moved against him.
