karachi rain forecast

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert forecasting thunderstorms and rainfall in Karachi division and other parts of Sindh from today until April 19. This prediction comes as a result of a “westerly wave” affecting Balochistan, which has already been grappling with floods due to heavy rainfall.

Under the influence of this weather system, the department anticipates light to moderate thunderstorms and rainfall, with isolated heavy falls expected in various districts including Jamshoro, Dadu, Hyderabad, and Karachi division. The weather outlook extends from today until the morning of April 19.

For Karachi specifically, today is expected to be hot with the possibility of rain at night, while Thursday is likely to be cloudy with intermittent thunderstorms and moderate rainfall, including isolated heavy falls. Friday is forecasted to have cloudy weather.

The recent rainfall in several parts of Sindh, including Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, and Badin, has already caused disruption, with slush and slime affecting low-lying areas. Additionally, six people lost their lives in rain-related traffic accidents in Karachi and its outskirts on Sunday.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz highlighted that while the predicted rain in Karachi and Sindh is less intense compared to Balochistan, the latter is experiencing severe rainfall and flash floods. This weather system is expected to persist in Balochistan until April 19 before moving towards Quetta, Punjab, and Azad Kashmir.

In Sindh, areas like Hyderabad, Mirphurkhas, and Nawabshah are expected to receive light rain, with upper Sindh likely experiencing moderate rain with heavy spells. Sarfraz predicts that the system will exit Sindh by Thursday night, moving to other parts of the country.

The continuous heavy rains and thunderstorms have affected various regions across Pakistan, with Balochistan experiencing torrential rain, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa witnessing landslides and floods. The meteorological department advises residents to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions during this period of inclement weather.
