Lahore court approves transitory remand of Fawad Chaudhry after being arrested for threatening Election Commission of Pakistan members

LAHORE: On Wednesday, the Cantt magisterial court provided the transitory remand of Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf’s leader Fawad Chaudhry to the Islamabad police. The court has allowed police to shift Fawad to Islamabad. Earlier, the PTI leader was presented in Cantt court in the case of threatening the members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The court has also directed the police to present Fawad Chaudhry by 1:30 PM today.

Fawad Chaudhry was arrested by the Islamabad police on Tuesday night, outside of his residence under the charges of threatening the ECP members. Secretary ECP, Omer Hamid Khan, registered the case against Chaudhry at the Kohsar police station. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Fawad used threatening language against the members of ECP during his speech outside the residence of Imran Khan in Lahore.

The police booked the PTI leader under Pakistan Penal Code sections 123-A (sedition), 505 (statements conducting to the mischief of public), and 153-A (promoting enmity between groups).

Hearing in Lahore Court:
During the hearing in the Cantt Court, the police requested a remand for the PTI leader Chaudhry Fawad. The former information minister said he does not know in which case he has been arrested and requested the court to provide him with a copy of the FIR. The court then provided a copy of the case to Fawad.

The police requested the court to provide them with Fawad Chaudhry’s remand, upon which the court reserved the decision and directed the authorities to shift Fawad Chaudhry. His lawyer asked for a medical examination and stated that his client does not have to travel for remand.

The PTI leader told the judge that he was proud of the case registered against him. Fawad added that a kingdom does not last forever and the caretaker government has been installed by PML-N. PTI followers have erupted on Twitter and demanded the release of their leader. #ReleaseFawadChaudhry is trending on top on Twitter Pakistan.
