PESHAWAR: In a meeting, on Thursday, held under Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja, it was decided to hold the local government elections in December. The meeting was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister Atif Khan, the chief secretary and a local government secretary.
In the first phase, the election will be conducted in the regional councils and villages, while tehsil elections will be held later.
According to the committee, the local government elections were on a halt due to Covid and poor law and order situation in the area.
The tentative date for the first phase of the polls in 17 districts is December 15. The second phase of the elections will be held in March next year in which tehsil councils will be covered.
