KARACHI: Citizens of the largest metropolitan city of Pakistan are facing a severe gas crisis in the month of Ramadan. The situation has created more problems for people to carry out normal day chores as already they are facing electricity loadshedding. Several residential areas of Karachi are not receiving an adequate supply of gas.
According to media reports, a technical fault in the Sawan gas field has caused a disruption in the gas supply. As a result, the rate of supply has dropped by 44mmcfd. Sources claim that there is a shortage of 300mmcfd in Sui Southern Gas Company.
Prominent areas like Scheme 33, Kathore, DHA, Saddar, Hijrat Colony, Garden, Liaquatabad, Baldia Town, Qaimkhani Colony, Korangi, Landhi, Orangi, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Gulistan-e-Johar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal are not receiving gas in important hours of the day.
The gas loadshedding pushed the residents of Baloch Para to carry out a protest against the authorities. The protestors caused a heavy traffic jam on the route that connects Guru Mandir and Teen Hatti. Residents of Baloch para said that they were experiencing gas load shedding during Iftar and Sehri. They demanded immediate action for the restoration of the gas supply.
Similarly, the residents of Gulshan-e-Iqbal are in distress due to gas loadshedding. Some blocks of the area complained of not receiving sui gas from 7:00 AM till 3:00 PM. Citizens said that several households, where there are children and patients, face problems in cooking lunch and other important meals.
