Senior Journalist and former ARY representative, Arshad Sharif, has been shot dead in Kenya, Nairobi city. The news was confirmed by his wife, Javeria Siddique, in a Tweet where she also asked to respect the family’s privacy.
Asim Iftikhar, Spokesperson of the Foreign Office, commented that the High Commission of Pakistan was collecting information from the authorities.
The circumstances and details of Sharif’s death are not confirmed yet. He had left Pakistan earlier this year after multiple sedition cases were lodged against him. He was a fierce critic of the PDM government.
Chief Justice of Islamabad High Court Athar Minallah has instructed the foreign and interior ministries to meet the family of Arshad Sharif. He issued the directives during the hearing of the plea asking to start an inquiry into Arshad’s death. The Islamabad High Court has also sent notice to federal and interior secretaries to submit the report by tomorrow.
