NEW YORK: James Michael Tyler, famously known as Gunther of hit sitcom F.R.I.E.N.D.S, has died at 59. He was suffering from advanced prostate cancer since 2018.

“The world knew him as Gunther (the seventh ‘Friend’) from the hit series F.R.I.E.N.D.S. but Michael’s loved ones knew him as an actor, musician, cancer-awareness advocate, and loving husband,” his manager Toni Benson said while presenting a tribute to him.

James worked in the serial ‘Just Shoot Me!’ and ‘Sabrina the Teenage Witch’ in 1990. He then appeared for a guest appearance in F.R.I.E.N.D.S in 1994. He became the most frequently appearing guest actor in the show.

Warner Bros Television also extended their condolences. “A beloved actor and integral part of our Friends family.”

He was actively working to raise awareness for prostate cancer. He also made a short performance for Stephan Kalinich poem ‘If You Knew’ for the cause.
