Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s historic visit strengthens Pak-Iran relations

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s landmark visit to Pakistan has highlighted the enduring bond between the two nations. Arriving in Lahore, President Raisi embarked on a symbolic journey, paying homage to the revered poet and philosopher, Allama Iqbal, at his mausoleum. The visit marks a significant diplomatic milestone, being the first of its kind by any head of state following Pakistan’s recent general elections.

Welcomed by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, President Raisi expressed heartfelt sentiments, emphasising the profound connection shared between the Iranian and Pakistani people. His sentiments resonated as he laid a floral wreath and offered prayers at Allama Iqbal’s resting place, honouring the literary giant who continues to inspire generations across borders.

In his address, President Raisi conveyed warm regards on behalf of the Iranian leadership, acknowledging the unwavering support of Pakistan in championing shared values and standing against divisive forces. Despite logistical constraints, he expressed a desire to engage directly with the Pakistani populace, a testament to the depth of bilateral relations.

The visit also witnessed fervent prayers for the strengthening of Pak-Iran ties and solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians, reflecting the spirit of unity and compassion that binds the two nations. President Raisi’s admiration for Allama Iqbal’s legacy, coupled with his keen interest in Lahore’s historical restoration efforts, further highlights the cultural affinity and mutual respect between Iran and Pakistan.

President Raisi has landed in Karachi, where he received an honourary doctorate from the University of Karachi. His reaffirmation of the vast potential for bilateral cooperation signals a promising trajectory for Pak-Iran relations, grounded in shared history, values, and aspirations.

With local holidays declared in Lahore and Karachi to facilitate the visit, and stringent security measures implemented, Pakistan extends a warm welcome to President Raisi, heralding a new chapter of friendship and partnership between the two nations.
