CALIFORNIA: The popular social media application, Instagram, will introduce a new feature named ‘Take a Break’ which will prompt the user to stop using the app for 10, 20, or 30 minutes.

The step is taken after American data engineer Frances Haugen disclosed the negative effects of social media on mental health. Numerous cases of mental health issues in young people pushed the company to introduce this feature as several teenagers when asked by the Facebook researchers admitted that they had no control over Instagram usage.

According to Vice-President of Facebook Global Affairs Nick Gleg, the new feature will enable teenagers to control the time spent on Instagram. The new feature might launch next month, subjected to positive test results.
