On Monday, after River Ravi, India released water in the Chenab River that resulted in a low-level flood at Chashma Barrage. Due to the Indian water release, the water level in Marala headworks has reached 169,000 cusecs. Similarly, at Khanki headworks it touched 193,000, at Kadirabad 194,000 and at Tareemo 33,000 cusecs.
The flow of water at Tarbela in the Indus River is 153,000. On the other hand, the water flow in the Kabul River is 56,000 cusecs. In the Indus River, at the location of Kalabagh, the flow of water is 210,000 cusecs. At the Taunsa Barrage water flow is 226,000 cusecs.
The inflow at Guddu Barrage is 188,700 cusecs. At Sukkur Barrage the flow has reached 144,000 cusecs.
Rescue Operations
A joint rescue operation was carried out by Punjab Rangers and Rescue 1122 in the Tehsil Shakargarh. During the operation, the team saved 223 people trapped in flood water.
With monsoon season in full flow and India releasing water, Pakistan is under the threat of low-lying floods that could cause major harm. The severity can increase as last year’s heavy rainfall causes a lot of damage across Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered the relevant authorities to ensure fool-proof arrangements and remain prepared for flood situations in Ravi, Chenab and Sutlej rivers.
Shehbaz Sharif applauded the efforts of Rangers and Rescue 1122 personnel for timely action and for helping people trapped in flood water.
