ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister Imran Khan secured interim bail from the anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Thursday. Khan has been facing charges for using threatening language for officials of the Islamabad police and Magistrate Zeba Chaudhry. The ATC has granted Khan the bail till September 1, 2022, against surety bonds worth Rs100,000.
Khan arrived at the ATC under high security. Different routes to the court were blocked and over 400 policemen took security charge of the complex. Authorities also blocked access for media officials. The petition for Khan’s bail was filed before his arrival which stated that the terrorism case had been lodged out of revenge.
Meanwhile, PTI had given a call for protest and asked supporters to head towards Islamabad if Khan was arrested. According to a private news channel, Asad Umar gave directions to impose a lockdown in case of Khan’s arrest.
