ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and former prime minister Imran Khan has announced to halt the protest and given a six-day ultimatum to the government for the dissolution of assemblies and arranging new elections.

During his address, Khan said that the federal government tried to crush the march as they raided homes of PTI representatives and used tear gas on protestors. He gave an ultimatum to the government to arrange fresh elections in six days and dissolve assemblies, or the protest would be resumed.

After the announcement from Khan, the sit-in at Numaish Chorangi, Karachi, was also called off.

On the other hand, the petition against PTI by the federal government for contempt of court was dismissed by Supreme Court. Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial headed the five-member bench. Bench members included Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi, Justice Yahya Afridi, Justice Munib Akhtar, and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

Earlier, the SC had directed PTI and the federal government to form negotiation committees and finalise possibilities for a peaceful march to Islamabad.
