Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister, has accused authorities of pressuring former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Faiz Hameed into becoming a state witness against him. The allegations were made during an informal conversation with journalists at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.
Khan claimed that Hameed’s recent arrest was orchestrated to shift his case to a military court. “The charges against me are baseless and won’t hold up in court. This is a deliberate move to get my case transferred to a military tribunal,” he asserted.
He further alleged that the involvement of Hameed in the case is a tactic to implicate him. “They are trying to turn Faiz Hameed against me by making him a state witness,” Khan added.
Despite these developments, Khan stated on Saturday that he is not intimidated by Hameed’s arrest. He emphasised that if he were fearful, he would not have advocated for the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the matter.
In response to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s accusations that PTI had damaged the economy, Khan referred to the Economic Survey of Pakistan, highlighting that the previous government had left a $19.5 billion deficit. He argued that this deficit made it necessary for PTI to engage with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
