ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court dismissed the show-cause notice it had issued to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan earlier and has freed Khan after accepting his written apology.
A larger bench, headed by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah, heard the case and ruled that the court was satisfied with Khan’s written assurances and apology. Khan had earlier apologised to the lower courts and had offered to apologise to Judicial Magistrate Zeba Chaudhry in-person.
The ruling was, however, met with protest from the attorney-general who pointed out to the previous verdicts in the court contempt cases. Chief Justice Minallah remarked that the attorney-general should submit his reservations in writing to the court.
The decision marks a month-long trial after Khan had allegedly threatened Chaudhry at his rally in Islamabad last month.
