Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman announces sit-in

Karachi: Chief of Jamaat Islami Karachi, Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman, has announced a city-wide protest to demand the cancellation of other charges in electricity bills for the current month. In his statement, Hafiz Naeem Ur Rehman said that the actual average tariff has been Rs 6.76 per unit and capacity charges of Rs 22.16 are added with a phoney claim.

JI leader demanded the caretaker prime minister reduce the power tariff as the consumer has to pay the power price even if they are not consuming the electricity.

Regarding IMF tax conditions, Hafiz Naeem said that global money lenders demanded tax on farmlands but Ishaq Dar opted not to clamp the Agriculture Tax. He added that only four pct people own 41 percent of land who are feudal and big landlords.

Hafiz Naeem pointed out that these landlords are installing industries, power plants & sugar mills and paying only 4 pct tax in a year. He lashed out at the IMF and said that global money lenders want Pakistan to default as they are not forcing a tax on feudal.

The JI prime leader announced to organized protest tomorrow and to personally participate in it. He added that they are considering launching a similar movement like non-payment movement by the people of Azad Kashmir.

The sit-in will take place outside Governor House. Hafiz Naeem said that the sit-in will continue till approval of demands.
