First Test heading towards Draw owing to poor pitch and weather

RAWALPINDI: The first Test of the Benaud-Qadir Trophy is heading towards a dull draw as rain, bad light and poor pitch have almost made sure that the two teams would be sharing four points each on the World Test Championship table.

Twenty-three overs of game was lost initially due to wet outfield. Despite the sun shining brightly, no play was possible because of the wet conditions. It wasn’t until a session’s play was lost that the umpires deemed the ground fit to host cricket. And when the Australian batters came out to bat, they made sure that they made the Pakistani bowlers toil hard.

Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith resumed the innings from where they had left with the former getting dismissed on 90 while edging a fuller length delivery to first slip. Smith was then joined by Travis Head, who after hitting two 4s, edged the ball behind to Mohammad Rizwan while attempting to cut Nauman Ali towards the point region.

Cameron Green chipped in with the bat and got dismissed at 48 by Nauman. Smith went in a similar fashion for 78. His wicket was also claimed by Nauman, earning him a hard-earned 4-fer. Australia are currently batting at 449/7, and as things stand, there is only one result on the cards; a draw.
