Financial aid programme launched for transgender persons by Punjab govt

RAWALPINDI: A monthly financial aid programme has been launched for transgender persons by the Punjab government. The ‘Masawaat Programme’ will aim to provide financial assistance to the transgender community of Punjab.

The plan will be headed by the Punjab Social Protection Authority. Transgender persons aged 40 and above will receive Rs3,000 every month. Any transgender with a disability, or persons aged 18 to 40, will get Rs2,000 monthly. To avail the facility, all transgender persons need to register themselves with the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra). In case of disability, a certificate of authentication will be required.

Punjab Social Protection Authority added that it would also help provide employment opportunities to the transgender persons.
