RAWALPINDI: According to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Director General Khaqan Murtaza, the ban on the Pakistan International Airlines by the European Union could soon be lifted following a safety audit report cleared by the validation committee of International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO).

It is expected that the Significant Safety Concerns (SSC) will also be relaxed now. PIA was banned by the EU last year in June when the Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan had declared that 262 PIA pilots had suspicious licenses.

Murtaza said that CAA was informed that the ban on the PIA flight operations will be lifted soon by the EU, adding that the airlines, however, won’t be able to recommence its operations until an approval was received by it.

The ICAO’s audit team’s findings will be shared publicly in a few weeks time. It had come here for the safety audit of the CAA. The process was completed on Dec 10 earlier this month.
