Earthquake of 6.1 magnitude strikes Afghanistan

KABUL: On Wednesday, Afghanistan was shaken by a 6.1 magnitude earthquake. As per current reports, 950 people have died in the horrific incident, and over 600 are injured. The death toll is expected to increase as further rescue operation takes place.

Interior Minister Salahuddin Ayubi said that rescue helicopters were deployed, along with medical and food supplies. The earthquake struck the area near to Pakistan border. In Paktika province, 200 people were injured, and 255 died. In Khost, 25 people died, and 90 got injured. Pakistan and India also experienced shocks, but no damage was reported from either side.

United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) has sent their teams for rescue. Pakistan has also said to participate in the rescue operation. President of Pakistan Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, DG ISPR, Chairman PTI Imran Khan and Pakistan Peoples Party extended their condolences through Twitter.
