ISLAMABAD: After reporting more than 300 cases over the last few days, the positive cases in Pakistan have dropped to 252 in the last 24 hours. The National Command and Operation Centre shared the stats for the positivity ratio, which has now dropped to 0.71 per cent.
Punjab reported 90 positive cases followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 81 cases. Sindh showed progress as it recorded 46 cases, while Islamabad, Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir collectively reported 28 cases.
According to the UK Health Security Agency, a new coronavirus variant is reported by South Africa, having a different spike protein. The new variant is referred to as B.1.1.529. It is currently found in South Africa, Honk Kong and Botswana after which India and Singapore have imposed strict border controls.
