Covid-19 pills 90pc efficient, Pfizer Inc

The American drug company, Pfizer Inc has said that the oral medicine for Covid-19 has shown effective results, with an efficacy rate of around 90 per cent. The company said that according to the data the medicine was also effective against the Omicron variant.

The drug company carried tests on 2,200 people, and the results showed the medicine’s effectiveness in preventing hospitalisations. Not a single death has been reported in any of the recipients of the medicine. The pills are taken after every 12 hours with ritonavir antiviral and would sell as Paxlovid after achieving authorisation.

Meanwhile, the National Command and Operation Centre shared the numbers of Covid cases and tests on its Twitter handle. According to the stats, 370 positive cases were reported from the total 44,609 tests conducted in the last 24 hours.

The positivity ratio was recorded at 0.82 per cent. Four people died due to the virus while 706 patients are in critical care.
