On Wednesday, the anti-Covid-19 pill by Pfizer Inc has been authorised by the United States. The medicine is the first oral medicine for the virus, suitable for age 12 and above.

According to Pfizer, Paxlovid has shown good results in the clinical trials. The medicine has been effective in controlling death toll, critical cases and also against the new Omicron variant.

The Food and Drug Administration has given Paxlovid the authorisation for mild to moderate levels of disease. The medicine will be available after prescription and should be taken after experiencing the symptoms of Covid-19. The drug is a five-day course, taken twice a day with a gap of 12 hours.

The US has ordered 265,000 treatment courses by January. According to Covid-19 response coordinator from White House Jeff Zients, the US will receive 10 million courses in the first half of the next year.
