KARACHI: Prices of chicken have touched a new high in Karachi after the lumpy skin disease has affected the cattle across the city. Alive bird price has hiked to Rs370 per kg from Rs190 per kg. On the other hand, chicken meat has touched the price of Rs570 per kg from Rs380 per kg.
Cattle markets in Sindh are closed down, and the government has advised the public against using infected animals’ meat and milk. Cattle owners are advised to separate their healthy animals from sick ones and use mosquito repellent sprays to kill insects that cause the disease.
According to a report, 54 animals have perished so far due to the lumpy disease with as many as 15,100 infected by the disease in the metropolis. The livestock department has been advised to vaccinate the infected animals in order to eliminate the disease.
