Australia reply strongly to Pakistan’s 476; rain forces early Stumps on Day 3

RAWALPINDI: Australia made a strong comeback on Day 3 when David Warner and Pakistan-born Usman Khawaja denied the Pakistan bowlers to make early inroads in the first session of the ongoing Test match. Pakistan had declared the innings at 476/4 courtesy a brilliant 185 by Azhar Ali and 157 by Imam ul Haq.

The Australian batters came out with a solid intent and put on a 100+ partnership for the first wicket. Warner was dismissed by Sajid Khan when he went on the backfoot to cut a ball that did not turn much and remained low. It hit the middle stump and Warner got dismissed for 68.

Khawaja fell victim to the nervous 90s and got caught at short leg while reverse sweeping Nauman Ali. He scored 97. Marnus Labuschagne and Steve Smith made sure that Pakistan bowlers did not run away with the show and put on an unbeaten 50+ partnership. Australia are currently playing at 271/2, with Labuschagne having scored 50 already. Smith, at the other end, is playing at 24 not out.

The game got called off early for second day straight due to bad light and rain. The match is scheduled to start at 9:45AM tomorrow.
