ISLAMABAD: Renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Tariq Jamil has said that the entire nation was ashamed at the cruel act of lynching the Sri Lankan national Priyantha Kumara who used to work as a factory manager in Sialkot.

Addressing a press conference here, while sitting right next to the Sri Lankan High Commissioner Mohan Wijewickrama, Maulana said that only Almighty ALLAH had the authority to burn anyone. He called the heinous crime an “act of cruelty”.

Maulana said that they were there to extend their apologies to the Sri Lankan nation. He urged the people to read and follow the teachings of the Holy Quran.

Citing a verse in the Holy Quran, Maulana reminded people that the killing of one innocent was as if the killing of all of humanity.

Kumara was brutally tortured, beaten, murdered and burnt by a mob that had accused him of having committed blasphemy. His killing caused an outrage globally with the people from all walks of life condemning the murder. Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan did not only condemn the murder but also promised exemplary punishment to those involved in the murder.

More than 900 people have been arrested and booked on different charges of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the case.
