KP Sub Inspector hosts Russian couple for Nanawate to clear misunderstandings

PESHAWAR: After the Russian couple, Slava Skolaniya and his wife, reported harassment by Jamrud area police, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s Sub Inspector Amin Akbar Afridi hosted them for a local custom -Nanawate to clear all misunderstandings. Slava Skolaniya and his wife are the first foreigners to be hosted for the event only held for locals.

Journalists and other police officials attended the event, where the couple was honoured with traditional customs. Slava Skolaniya’s wife was also gifted a traditional chadar as an act of hospitality. A wide variety of local dishes were served along with traditional music for entertainment.

Both lauded the people of Khyber district and called them hospitable, loving, and traditional. They also cleared that they have no anger towards the people, and would encourage foreigners to visit the place.

Regarding the incident, they talked about facing troubles in navigating and felt the behaviour of officers was rude, but they now realise the loving nature of the people of Jamrud. Allegedly, the foreign couple were intercepted by police who talked to them aggressively and ordered them not to travel ahead despite they had their documents.

The Russian couple thanked the sub-inspector for the gifts and hospitality and said they would remember the hospitality of Nanawate.

District Police Officer (DPO) Saleem Abbas denied harassment charges and invited the couple to a traditional event to make amends.
