KARACHI: In a key development vis-a-vis blockage of ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter) filled with all sorts of irony, it was revealed that the social media network was banned on the insistence of Interior Ministry.
The notification was ironically shared on X which remains suspended in Pakistan. It was first shared by lawyer Moiz Jafferi. It is pertinent to mention here that the previous and the current interior ministry had said that they had no knowledge of who was behind the banning of the social media network.
The notification, available with The Upcut, reveals that the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Chairman was directed to block X by interior ministry last month on February 17 following Liaquat Chattha’s accusations of alleged rigging.
